ADM-Aeolus

The Atmospheric Dynamics Mission Aeolus (ADM-Aeolus), or shortly here the Aeolus mission, is a global wind measurement satellite mission of the European Space Agency (ESA), [Stoffelen2005]. Its main payload is the Atmospheric Laser Doppler (Aladin) instrument which is a direct detection ultraviolet Doppler laser lidar [Aeolus2008]. Please see Figure (1). The received backscatter signal produces a linear radar interference pattern whose (vertical) position is directly linked to the wind velocity. At level 2, the main defined product is wind vector strengths in the horizontal component of the line-of-sight (HLOS), which can be used in meteorology.

For the current project we consider the return signal from the surface.
